Consultation

Today we met with the surgeon who is going to perform Amelia's surgery- Dr. Hockmuth. We had a chance to sit down and chat about what to expect during her surgery and recovery. Dr. Hockmuth let us know that the surgery should take somewhere between 1-2 hours. Eric, Amelia, and I are going to check in to the hospital on Wednesday night to get all her lab work and testing done. This will be nice so that we don't have to get up quite so early on Thursday morning. Her surgery will be at 7:00 am and they will come and get her at 6:00 to prep. After she is done she will be recovering in the NICU and we will be able to go back and see her and hopefully hold her soon after. They are thinking that our hospital stay will be between 7-10 days and then she will get to come home!

We had a really good talk with Dr. Hockmuth and he helped put our minds at ease about many things. (Sorry Uncle Corey- he did go to school at the University of Iowa.... I will be a Hawk fan for this occasion :) For the surgery itself they will make an incision on her left side and then go in and take out the narrow part of her aortic arch and sew the other two back together. I have no idea how they do it but I know that I am so thankful that they do! We are really looking forward to getting the surgery part done so we can move on to recovery.

Thank you again so much to all of you for all the support, prayers, and love. We are seeing how truly blessed we are. It really means more than you will ever know!

On a non-surgery note: Miss Amelia has decided that the best hours to be awake are between 12-5 am. She had herself quite a party last night and invited both mommy and daddy along for the ride. Here's hoping that tonight will offer a little more sleep our way.

Also HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY cousin Eli!!!! We love you very much!

    I can't stop thinking about you. Will be continuing to pray and pray and pray. Don't know if you ever knew this, but when Nick was 6 weeks old, he had surgery at UIHC for a stomach situation called pyloric stenosis. Not nearly quite the impact of heart surgery, but I still had to see my baby hooked up to tubes and such. It is a time when you truly realize how thankful you are for the talents of physicians. Stay strong Amy and Eric. God is guiding those surgeons. Love, Aunt Jan.
